Ancient Harmony simplifies form and shape

Many people depict this painting as dark and confusing but a lot of people see beyond the dark background and small colored squares and see exactly what Paul intended, harmony.

In this particular painting Paul clearly tries and tests the traditional boundaries of visual art by exploring a new abstract and poetic language of colors and symbols.

Klee was known to admire the artwork of children and shows this through his paintings by creating simple yet stunning pieces of art. He has employed intense colors through his work which was inspired by a trip to North Africa. From here he created the idea Ancient Harmony.

His exclusive use of designs, patterns and colors have been used in both artistic and philosophical principles over the years. Ancient Harmony is another one of his famous and popular paintings which has a childlike, fantastical atmosphere bringing abstract art to a new level.

His artistic techniques include painting on everyday materials such as cardboard, burlap and muslin. He is famous for breaking 'traditional' rules and used many trying techniques. He liked to experiment in unusual ways and sprayed, dabbed and stamped paint rather than using a brush.

A lot of people say that he inspired the surrealism revolution in artwork which came to life in the 20th century. Through his abstract view, he created The Ancient Harmony.
