One of the places that are a symbol of tradition is the Yodo River. Artists want their art to remain relevant even after they die and Hokusai had that. Years after his death his art is of great value. He died at the age of 88. Even though he didn't achieve much success until the age of 60 he left a mark. You can see some prints of his work in museums.
After he changed his style of working in terms of the subject he found success. He started focusing more on landscapes and adding a little bit of the Japanese tradition and culture into it. This launched his career as one of the smartest artists. He aways wanted to do better and produce better and more impactful art. It is said that on his death bed he said if only he had 10 more years he would become a real painter. Artists who came up under him claimed he was the best art teacher.
