Still Life with Fish by Frederic Bazille is an exciting painting. The art was different from all his painting, but the lovers of art received it with happiness. Still Life with fish features two fishes on top of a chest and a bucket full of small fishes. One of the fishes on top of the chest is highly scaled and shiny while the other one is dull and smooth.

The fishes are not placed directly on the chest, but they lie on a white cloth. The cloth is wet, which shows that the fish are fresh and they were releasing water on to the cloth. Still Life with Fish painting was different from all other artworks done by Bazille. The artist loved painting people, landscapes, and flowers. Therefore, painting fish was a different route, but it was worth it. Many people loved the art. It expressed the hard work put by the workers in France. It showed that hard work pays. After fishing for a particular amount of time, a fisherman can get two big fishes and even put small ones in a bucket. The bucket is made using special materials which showed the tradition of the French people.

Therefore the picture was traditional and also depicted hard work. Bazille was an artist of surprises, and thus Still Life with Fish also came as a surprise to the market. The dimension of the picture is 63.5 × 81.9 cm when unframed and 81.6 × 101 × 8.9 cm when framed. The medium of the art is oil on canvas. This art was released in 1866, a period where impressionism was the style that was significantly used by many artists. Bazille loved the impressionism style, and thus he had to bring it out in the still Life with fish painting. The brushstroke in the art is perfect that the fishes look fantastic, and the white cloth on the chest enhances the brightness of the art.

Frederic Bazille is a talented artist who received his inspiration from Eugène Delacroix. Bazille moved to Paris to further his medical studies, but he took that chance to also work on his art skills. He met many influential artists who helped him grow as an independent artist. The Still Life with Fish painting had an excellent reception, which gave Bazille the motivation to do different types of artworks other than landscape. Still Life with Fish art can be found at Detroit Institute of Arts Museum and is also available for sale to the public.
